Freedom of the Press Foundation now accepts crypto donations

Freedom of the Press Foundation announced that press freedom supporters and cryptocurrency enthusiasts can now donate to the foundation using Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Zcash.

According to the official statement, the donations will support foundation’s projects to advance press freedom, including SecureDrop, the open source whistleblower submission platform used by more than 60 news organizations worldwide.

More information on how to donate can be found here.

The foundation informed that in nearest future it is planning to add more cryptocurrencies. Those who would like to donate using cryptocurrencies not featured on the donation page, can directly contact the foundation.

Freedom of the Press Foundation has already received its first major crypto donation. Mainframe, a blockchain company building a network for censorship resistant communication and decentralized applications, has donated 1,000 ETH (about $495,000) to the Foundation.

“Decentralized technology has great potential to advance the ability of individuals to resist surveillance and censorship. As with all emerging technology in this space, we look forward to evaluating the Mainframe platform as it develops with an eye to its potential to advance press freedom.”

“In truth, this legendary donation would not have been possible without the backing of our community — you helped us raise a whopping $1.4 million in the name of freedom of speech and information! With the Foundation so aligned with our own values, we decided on them for our first donation — 1000 ETH, which is actually the first major cryptocurrency donation in Freedom of Press Foundation’s history,” told Mick Hagen, Founder of Mainframe.
